Easily the best stocked and best curated K-beauty and skincare shop in all of Los Angeles, if not Southern California. They're located in the Koreatown Plaza Mall. You can get three hours of free validation, and they have a delightful, legendary food court at the basement level. Compared to an Olive Young, Beauty Palace, Sephora, or Ulta, it's a much calmer, pleasant shopping experience. Every product on their shelves, at every price point, just works. They deliver on the promises stated on the packaging. Or in the case of color makeup, it's super flattering for those with yellow or olive undertones, as well as bluer ones. Thanks to acne and internalized racism while in middle school, I developed a lifelong skincare experimentation hobby. I got into K-beauty in my early 20s, before it was popular with bloggers and YouTubers. This is the best shop you can go to. If you have problem skin, something you want to address, or need recommendations, or have a hard time matching your skin tone to stuff at Ulta and Sephora because you have East Asian-like undertones, this is the place. This is where I buy the good good that Koreans in Korea swear by, not just the trendy exports Koreans create for US market consumption. They have brands like Sulwhasoo, Iope, Hera, Laneige, Inisfree, Hanyul, as well as wonderful hair care and skin care products. Stuff that's delightful to use and just works, in all budgets and for all age groups, from teens upward. This is where I get my Mother's Day gifts, products for myself, and where I go to learn about the best innovations and heritage products that the ROK has to offer. The staff here are knowledgeable, dedicated, patient, beautiful inside and out, and amazing. They always give me wonderful samples, so that I can continue to discover new products and brands. I've been approached for over a decade now by women of all ages, asking what my skincare routine is. Truthfully, I'm often lazy about my routine, owing to crashing asleep many nights... but even on a limited budget or crashing like me, you can get good results if you spend your beauty budget right, on a few products that pull beyond their weight and price points. I don't see any reason to keep this place as a secret, as I would love to see them blow up. I would love to see fellow Angelenos benefit from the wonderful R&D, sweat equity, formulations, and artistry that people of the ROK have put into making sure their citizens feel confident, healthy, and beautiful. I see all that as a form of resilience, and though it's outer care, not inner, I believe it still counts. Please go say hi to Mi hee for me. She's the best and Exhibit A for how well K-beauty skincare products work over the long game. She's worked in the Korean skincare industry in Korea, and her store reflects the dedication, craft, soul, and elevated care I associate with Korean artistry. If you're a dermatologist, aesthetician, or makeup artist, please don't sleep on this store. You could make a strong career just by studying and using what they have in stock.
