What locals say
The quality of meat was so good, no marinade even needef. The marbling and freshness of each cut was very impressive. Side dishes were tasty and can be refilled Clean restaurant and quick services as well
As a Korean immigrant, Bornga is my absolute "must-visit" every single time I’m in Sydney. Walking through the doors truly feels like being transported back to Korea; the atmosphere is as authentic as it gets. As a huge fan of Paik Jong-won (백종원), I have high expectations for his restaurants, and this location consistently delivers on that world-class standard. Signature Dish: You absolutely must try the Chadol Doenjang (차돌된장). It comes with a rice bowl specifically designed for mixing, creating a hearty, soulful meal that tastes like home. Quality Meats: The BBQ cuts are incredibly fresh and high-quality. You can taste the difference in every bite—the marbling and texture are always spot on. The Vibe & Service: What makes this place truly special is the "young blood" energy. The staff are incredibly enthusiastic and hustle so hard it’s actually motivating to watch. It feels like a live K-drama happening right in front of you—everyone is working with such passion and heart. Overall Experience: It’s more than just a meal; it’s a boost of motivation and a piece of Korea in the heart of Sydney's Chinatown. Highly recommended for anyone who wants high-quality K-BBQ served with incredible spirit!
Dined at Bornga yesterday and had mixed feelings about the experience. The meat was excellent, great quality and definitely the highlight of the meal. However, we ordered the Kimchi Seafood Soup, and it was extremely oily. The surface was almost entirely covered in oil, making it difficult to enjoy, so we only ate the seafood and other fillings rather than the broth itself. We have dined here before and have ordered similar soups many times, and we’ve never experienced it being this oily. After waiting quite a while without anyone checking on our table, a staff member finally came over and we raised our concern. The soup was taken back to the kitchen, but when the supervisor returned, we were told that the soup is supposed to be that oily and that nothing could be done because we had already eaten half of it. Unfortunately, what we had actually eaten was mostly the filling, not the broth. While we understand that dishes can vary and not every complaint warrants a replacement, the response lacked the level of hospitality and customer care we expected. It was a disappointing experience, especially given how much we enjoyed the quality of the meat. Great food, but the handling of customer feedback left a lot to be desired.
2/5/26 - 3.5 stars Perhaps one of the most popular and longest standing KBBQ spots in the city. Certainly quite upscale in terms of decor and size with good service, though I found grill changes almost too frequent at times. The ingredients, banchan and side dishes are generally quite fresh, but, wouldn't say particularly good. Price point is probably not that bad if you're small eaters, but, otherwise somewhat expensive. The saving grace is that some of the sides are unlimited.
One of the best Korean BBQ restaurant in Sydney and I must say it has quickly become one of my favourites. From the quality of the meat to the side dishes, every bite showcases the freshness of the ingredients and the care put into the cooking. The place is nice and clean. The staff was welcoming and attentive. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!
