Authentic…I suppose. I have a very wide palate and truly love exploring different foods and have for years. The food here was average at best. The decor makes any hole-in-the-wall dive bar look glamorous. Tight squeeze and you’re guaranteed to have someone’s back rub against yours during the course of dining here. I’m not sure what to call the service. We were definitely out of place as 95% of the patrons seemed to be Korean…but you would think that meant something positive…not really. I love offbeat restaurants and have no problem if it’s not attractive, but the service best be above average and the food best be outstanding! Final recommendation…skip this place unless you really want to find out for yourself.
What an amazing experience I had. The food was amazing. I order the intestine dish, and it blew me away. Although the restaurant is small, it is very cozy. I definitely felt like I got to experience an authentic Korean meal. The staff were very attentive. Even though they had a full house, they kept checking on us and helping us throughout the meal. I would love to come here again.
The best Korean BBQ in Chicago. I went back after 9 years, and it still tasted just as good. We had the chadolbaegi, and the quality was amazing. The employees even came over to grill it for us. The fried rice was delicious too. I’ll definitely return the next time I visit Chicago.
Expect authentic Korean food with the busiest service ever. I went there as group of two on Saturday night and they were so popular around 6-7. Gotta wait in line and it took ever to order stuff. There were only three Korean aunties running around. Managing the entire restaurant. They need more people. It took us twenty minute to order and another twenty for food to come up. But the barbecue was so good. Fresh thinly cut meat with nice seasoning pairings with green onion. Also ordered cold noodles which was so fresh and yummy. They are also BYOB. The aunties seemed overwhelmed but very nice. Taught me and my friend how to properly eat barbecue. Gotta eat with all the sauces in the correct order and with huge amount of green onions, which were surprisingly not spicy.
This is a top notch Korean BBQ establishment!! This review is five years late as I just started doing reviews recently… but I had to post about this place! Ive been to many Korean BBQ spots around the country, some that are all you can eat, some that try too look like they’re in a K-pop video and others that attempt to look fancy but have little to offer that’s good, this restaurant maybe a hole in the wall compared to most places that I’ve been but the food and service are absolutely AMAZING!! The meats were excellent, I had bulgogi which was the best that I’ve had, my friend had other meats which they also really enjoyed. The other great thing were the side offering, there were many and all very good! I 100% recommend trying this place out if you are looking for excellent Korean BBQ and in the Chicago area definitely try out Cho Sun Ok!!!
