Healthy spa Tateba

Nothing special about this onsen. Below average in my opinion. Everything is old and looks a bit dirty, entry is 520, to enjoy salt sauna you have to pay another 300. There are a few hot tubs, no open space. Also have to pay to use the hair dryer. A few good points: - you can pay everything cashless (credit card, QR pay,…) - there is a steam sauna and it is free - there is an electric hot tub and it’s really strong - the guide on how to use onsen is funny and written in a few popular languages (English, Chinese, Korean,…) That’s it, for taking a bath, it’s ok. Expect nothing more than that.

Here’s how you enjoy this Onsen if you’ve never been: 1. Put your shoes in the lockers downstairs and bring the wood plate with you upstairs. 2. Purchase the ticket with the vending machine, the ones upstairs take credit card. 3. Hand the ticket and wood plate to front desk 4. Take the keys they give you and enter the locker room. (If you purchased the Sauna as additional, it was way too hot for me so I’ll just do the basic package next time) 5. Find an empty locker with the keys on it, put your stuff in and get naked. 6. Take a shower sitting down and enjoy the Onsen. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash were all included. Employees were super nice and it definitely shows that they welcome foreigners. A great first Onsen!

Old school, friendly staff with foreigners, tattoo OK, there's a NO BAD MANNER sign with a tattoo guy in the entrance, but we went in with visible tattoos and it was fine, there were also locals with tattoos.

Well, let me just say BATH HOUSE!! I’m easy to please. As a tattooed woman, I seek out bath houses Onsens, Sentos, spas… pools… anything with water. This place was super family friendly. The only mistake I made was coming during the busy time in the evening. Otherwise this place was great with a little snack bar for grabbing a beer or a cold chocolate or white milk from Hokkaido, after the super hot baths! This bath has a salt sauna that may scald you to death!! It’s EXTREMELY HOT! Be very careful Westerners! It’s no joke, but really incredible. I love everything about this place and I can’t wait to go there again in a few months.

Loved it here, very local and felt authentic! Facilities were clean, I recommend :) Also tattoos are allowed! Not just tiny ones, I have 70% of my body covered and was able to thoroughly enjoy this relaxing experience
