The shaved ice matcha and red bean was amazing! It was sweet and the ice was refreshing. The red bean soup was bought hot and was also very nice. Definately recommend others to get it. It was nice seeing this place as there wasn't much dessert options. There were a lot of sesting and the music is very relaxing!

Brought my mum here as she loves red bean related desserts - and this place did not disappoint. The red bean soup was sweet, but not too overwhelming for us. My mum had the hot red bean soup with chestnut and I had the cold red bean soup, which wasn’t too cold even though the weather was cold. I appreciated the salted kelp but it’s an acquired taste, and the hot matcha to balance the sweetness. The lady who served us was very polite and identified us as tourists right away and spoke simple English to us. There was English Mandarin and Korean on the menu, making it easy to order. We came here during lunch time and there was only one other lady in the shop. There are only 5 tables. Note: You will need to order 1 share (2 bowls) per person.

This is where Meoto Zenzai (夫婦善哉), a sweet shop with a history dating back to 1883, resides. The establishment's name, meaning "A Good Couple," encapsulates its unique tradition: serving one portion of Zenzai (sweet red bean soup) divided into two small bowls, symbolizing marital harmony and good fortune. ​Upon entering, the calm, antique atmosphere immediately offers a welcome escape from the urban clamor. The aged wooden tables and tasteful traditional decor spoke volumes about the shop’s deep history. We ordered their signature Zenzai alongside a refreshing bowl of Shaved Ice (Kakigori). ​The traditional Zenzai arrived split into two bowls, signifying the combined pair as a single serving. Perhaps due to its meaningful tradition, every spoonful of the rich red bean soup felt imbued with a sense of auspicious happiness. The finely mashed red beans were deeply sweet and rich, complemented perfectly by the chewy shiratama (rice dumplings). The shaved ice, which we ordered on the side, offered a delightful contrast, providing a cool relief with its clean, simple sweetness. ​However, the true sweetness of Meoto Zenzai extended beyond its desserts. The warm hospitality and genuine kindness of the staff enhanced the shop's serene ambiance. In this historic setting, the employees showed meticulous care to every guest, their gentle smiles blending perfectly with the comforting warmth of the sweet soup. ​Meoto Zenzai is more than a place for delicious traditional sweets; it is a meaningful destination symbolizing love and goodwill. For anyone wandering through Hozenji Alley seeking a moment of quiet reflection, sharing a pair of warm Zenzai here is a highly recommended way to invite good fortune and warmth into their journey.

Tucked in the corner of the busy streets of Namba is the this cute little shop ran by two friendly women. The menu is simple. We had the Matcha Milk Shaved Ice and the Hot Bean Soup. The shaved ice was perfectly balanced with ingredients. Light and refreshing there’s plenty to share for two. We also shared the Hot Bean Soup since they came in two bowls. It’s a great place to go after dinner!
