Somisomi

Although the ambience was good, we were not really impressed with the taste. We tried 2 different Taiyakis - one with Nutella and another with the Oreo filling. These were just like waffles, just tiny in size. In our opinion, the Oreo filling didn’t taste so good and Nutella was a little better than average. We also took the soft serve “cup” with Nutella filling. Honestly, we’ve had better ice creams and didn’t enjoy it so much.

Hands down the best taiyaki, especially with the soft serve. The shop is clean with a great ambiance, and the staff is very friendly. There are so many topping options to choose from, and the flavors are excellent. We will definitely be back.

I love this place and I wish it’s in more places along hwy 80 in California. I love their matcha ice cream and I love their fish shaped waffles, which you can watch them make it. The reason why I give them 4 stars is because they don’t have one chair in the place to sit or stand around while waiting for the order to be ready. It’s busy all the time and you’ll need to be patient waiting in line. The line moves fairly quickly to the register to pay. However, the wait is much longer to receive your order.

They make the taiyaki fresh right when you order, which makes a big difference. I tried the Oreo and black sesame flavors and both were really good, warm, and fresh. The black sesame one was especially amazing.

Somisomi is the brand you can trust. I have one in San Mateo before and this location delivers the same good quality soft serve along with taiyaki. I would prefer matcha and black sesame flavor. Very good combination!
