KCON: the K-wave's traveling town square

When the first KCON was held in Southern California in 2012, K-pop was still a niche import. Today the convention-plus-concert format fills arenas and drapes downtown Los Angeles in lightstick colors every August, drawing six-figure crowds across a weekend of music, food, beauty, and fandom.

What KCON proved is that Korean culture abroad isn't only music — it's an economy of restaurants, cosmetics counters, karaoke rooms, and grocery aisles. Every KCON weekend, Koreatowns feel it: tables turn all night and noraebang queues stretch down the block.
